Honda's Are Not Volvo's

March 17th, 2009; 8:39 PM

There was a car accident on Highway 12, on Monday. The car that caused the accident was litterally cut in half by the force of the impact. Neither car was speeding. Both drivers were relatively young but not too young. It was just an average day and a terrible accident. Something that could have happened to anyone. The thing that got to me was that one of the cars looked like Joshua's. A blue Honda Accord. I have never seen such a bad accident. The car was shocking. Cut in half, width ways! The driver of the Honda died on impact; his body had to be cut out of the car. I know this stretch of road where the accident was. It's beautiful. I love that corner right before. The road climbs and makes a fun turn and then flows downhill into a beautiful clearing. Pastures on the right, and vineyards on the left. It's a nice smooth road. One of my favorite drives actually. Yesterday the driver was unidentified...and for the most part I did not worry. It seemed highly unlikely that it was Joshua. He's still in Tahoe and has no reason to be here right now. And blue Honda Accords are somewhat common in this area. I did have a moment of relief though, when it was confirmed that it was in fact: NOT him. (whew!) This does forever put to rest though the question of how "safe" Honda's are for me. They are "safe enough"...but by no means even remotely in the same category of safe as a Volvo or Mercedes. Not even a remote contender. Which is why they get such great gas milage. But if that car had a steel cage like a Volvo...I doubt it would be in the shape it is in now. Joshua used to tell me how safe Honda's were...he seemed to think that they were as safe as Volvo's...I politely, yet firmly disagreed. And I still do.

Here are some photo's of the accident. It is truly shocking.
