I Saw The King Of The Break Up On Friday...It Must Have Been An Omen

Current mood:numb
Woah! Now that I've come down from the cup cakes...
I'm hurt. I'm a little numb. But I'm ok. Everyone goes through this. And everyone gets over it too. It's not the end of the world...it just feels like it for the next 5 minutes...and then it won't feel like it...and then one day, I'll forget about it...And move on completely. The important thing is to try to do this well. ...With kindness, compassion, and grace.
I had a very funny coincidence on Friday. I ran into a guy who dated one of my good friends. He really set the bar for how to break up well. He did it in person (the only way to go if you have any class at all IMO), he was thoughtful, he didn't think ONLY of himself and what would make it easiest on him, he was compassionate and kind, and he had an appropriateness of feeling (meaning: he wasn't just drop-kicking her to the curb on the way to a party where he'd be immediately getting onto shagging someone new...he was appropriately sad. He authentically felt bad about the break up. Now he wasn't going to mire in it, but right there, right then, where it counted -he was vulnerable and honest and empathetic.) He did break ups better than anyone else that I've ever seen. He did them so well, that they even ended up friends. Real bonafide friends. (Don't worry...I don't have my bar set that high. I'll be happy to get out of this with my dignity somewhat intact. I figure...If I avoid nuclear winter...I'm doing OK.) -Kidding BTW...just kidding...one must keep their sense of humor above all else! Particularly in times like these.
