Yom Kippur

October 9th, 2008; 9:42 PM

Current Mood: Impervious

Today is Yom Kippur.
It will be Yom Kippur until sundown this evening. For those of you who don't know, this is the Day of Atonement (not the only one…but the last one for this year, which makes it a big deal.) In theory, this is the day to officially confess and repent for the naughty naughty things you've done in the last year. You are supposed to make an effort to put right the things you've made wrong, and theoretically you'll have a clean slate with god after sundown if you do this. Hmmmmmm...
Jeepers. This year's been long. I have quite a few calls to make before sundown.
It's good to have days like this set aside, to have time to think about and take action on the things that we all know we *should* take action on. I mean we all say we want world peace…but how do we actually get what we want??? I think it all gets chunked down to little things like Yom Kippur. If we didn't have a deadline to take action, I really think a lot of us just wouldn't. I know a whole lotta people who have great intentions, but when it's "go time", and they have to extend themselves or be in an uncomfortable position, or E-gads! Own the crap that they've done to other people!!! -They decide to give it a little more time, or convince themselves that taking no action and ignoring the problem is the best solution to the problem. (Horsepuckey!) How can it?! If we never *try* then the same things will repeat. We have to at the very least *try*. And it's true that all attempts are not met with open arms and forgiveness. But it's the first step in the right direction. Destination: World Peace.
